Team and Player Updates
ALABAMA Starting OLB Brooks Daniels left the team for medial and personal reasons. DeMeco Ryans will move into his spot (WLB) in the starting lineup. SOPH Juke King will be the backup at SLB.

ARIZONA Starting NT Vince Feula is academically ineligible for 2003.

BOISE STATE
Starting DE Jason Wardlow will be academically ineligible this season.

CLEMSON Junior LB Eric Sampson has been reinstated to the team after being dismissed in the off-season. Sampson started all 12 regular season games for the Tigers in 2002.

- WR Roscoe Crosby has been allowed to play football for the Tigers this season, and should be a valuable deep threat on offense.

GEORGIA TECH Tech lost six more players to academic ineligibility. Among those players (on the two-deep) are:DT Alfred Malone, LB Sterling Green, OT Reggie Koon and WR LeKeldrick Bridges.

- Head Coach Chan Gailey announced that 2001 All-American DE Greg Gathers, has yet to be cleared for full-contact drills due to a kidney ailment that signed him last fall.

- True freshman QB Reggie Ball has shown a great deal of confidence and admirable progress in fall practice. He has been working with the first team and could start in the Jackets' first game against BYU. Ball's emergence has come as the result of disappointing play from A.J. Suggs and Damarius Bilbo. Bilbo might still see action at QB, but is more suited for RB or WR and will get more playing time at those positions.

HOUSTON QB Nick Eddy, who had a solid spring and could have been the top signal-callers in Conference USA this year, will sit out the 2003 season due to academics.

LOUISVILLE CB Laroni Gallishaw and WR Dontay Spillman have been dismissed from the team for failing to meet specific guidelines set by the school. The Cards lose CB Laroni Gallishaw but leftover Josh Minkins has potential. He comes back as the team leader in INTs, but only had two. This partially speaks of how weak UL's pass defense was a year ago. J.T. Haskins will team with Minkins to give the Cards two honest corners.

MICHIGAN STATE
Last year's starting QB, Jeff Smoker, has been reinstated to the team and is very well in the hunt for the starting job this season.

MISSISSIPPI
Starting Center, Justin Sawyer injured his knee in practice, and it is unknown as to how much of this season he will miss. RB Jamal Pittman, who was likely to miss the entire 2003 season has been on the practice field and could be suited up for their first game this season.

PURDUE Starting RB Joey Harris has been declared academically ineligible for the upcoming season. The likely replacement will be sophomore Brandon Jones.

SOUTH CAROLINA RB Daccus Turman is back on the team, as his suspension has been lifted.

SOUTHERN MISS Starting WR Chris Johnson has been dismissed form the team for violating team rules.

TEMPLE
Starting DE Rodney Wormley will have to sit out the 2003 season due to a knee injury.

TEXAS Backup CB Edorian McCullough is academically ineligible for 2003.

TEXAS A&M Backup LB Randall Webb has been dismissed from the football team. Franchione had earlier indefinitely suspended Webb for violating team rules.

UCF Academic issues will sideline three senior leaders. Fullback Andreal Curry, middle linebacker Chad Mascoe, and guard Alex Mendez, all projected starters, will not be eligible to play this season. Earlier this summer, academic shortcomings claimed starting DE Rashad Jeanty, who subsequently fled to the CFL.

UCLA WR Tab Perry will miss the upcoming season after failing to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Perry, a senior, said he will redshirt the 2003 season and plans to return for 2004.

VIRGINIA
Starting WR Michael McGrew will miss the 2003 season due to a knee injury suffered in practice. He is likely to take a medical redshirt.

WASHINGTON The Huskies will be without backup DT Junior Coffin for the 2003 season, due to a pinched nerve in his neck and shoulder. This compounds the loss of starting DT Josh Miller who will also sit out 2003 due to back problems.

- Starting FB Zach Tuiasosopo will miss three to four games this season, though it's not yet determined which games those will be.
