QUICK ANALYSIS

November 28, 2003 - The Seminoles have talent...the world knows this. In normal years, this group would warrant a Top 5 approach. Yet the fact remains -- the new coaching staff just won't allow FSU to go any higher. Since Bobby Bowden lost so many of his top assistants, the replacements have struggled to find a winning edge. The skill positions on offense are loaded. Chris Rix will be the starter at QB. Is this the same kid who came on so well in 2001 or the kid who struggled throughout 2002 while losing his job at one point? Greg Jones should be a total monster at tailback (depending on how well he rehabbed the torn knee suffered late in 2002) and Anquan Boldin is a big play receiver. The offensive line is history. FSU's stumble from greatness has been due largely in part to a defense that just can't seem to find itself. With 10 starters back on that side of the ball, times could get better. The Noles still look to be your favorite for the ACC, but instead of one team pushing, there will be a large handful of them. 8-4 seasons are good for some teams, but in Tallahassee that is the equivalent of the sky falling.
