QUICK ANALYSIS

November 28, 2003 - This Hokie squad was primed to be a Top 5 team here not long ago. Then the losing streak hit, creating question marks where there weren't many. Lee Suggs will depart and so Kevin Jones will have the sole responsibility of carrying the load. People that think he won't will be sadly mistaken. Jones will be one of the best runners to ever wear the Hokie jersey before departing Blacksburg. The big question everyone will want to know is what about Marcus Vick (Mike's younger brother) at QB. After a year of redshirting, is he ready to take the reigns from current starter Bryan Randall? The odds say no in Vicks first year of real competition, as Randall will now hold a big experience edge. All the talk should be about the defense as all but two starters are back from a unit that reeked havoc the first part of 2002 (against stiff competition for once). Which leads to the ugly side of football life for Frank Beamer. The Hokies may have one of the worst schedules in the nation for 2003. James Madison, UCF, UConn...how they continue to schedule that stuff and get away with it is amazing. The BCS isn't very friendly anymore to this type schedule. One slip up usually means non-BCS bowling. But the talent is there to play with most anybody.
