QUICK ANALYSIS

There is good reason for worry and promise to come out of Coral Gables. QB Brock Berlin brought bigtime expectations with him when he transferred from rival Florida - he will have one more chance to deliver as he and four other seniors lead a total of nine returning starters on an offense that converted for a mere 28 TDs (14 each rushing and passing). By only breaking the 40-point barrier twice while being held under 30 five times, one must wonder if 2003 was an exception or a trend. Bet it was a quick bump in Miami's road to improved offensive and team successes. The Cane's top-five defense will return all front-line starters to re-bolster their 25th-best run-stopping efforts, so expect big things there. Even if monstrous Vince Wilfork departs early, there is depth to be found on the inside. The secondary could be one of the south's best with All-American seniors Sean Taylor and Antoine Rolle returning. Either's departure will make this area a soft spot for early foes. Miami has a great habit of replacing departing superstars with capable contributors - expect more of this as Hurricane draft classes have recently shone. Miami's recent jump to the ACC with several other former-Big Easters will make for new opponents sure to push head coach Coker in ways his past "inherited" teams never did. We will see what kind of coach Larry really is as nothing will be for sure in 2004.
