QUICK ANALYSIS

Dare we say the Trojans are back in the elite class of college football? The men of Troy (also known as Los Angeles) will be glad to see the return of (three of four members of) the "Wild Bunch II" up front on the DL and their second ranked run stopping ability. The young secondary reeks with all-star talent and the LB position is well covered with returning starters Grootegoed and Tatupu. Nobody appears to plan on running the ball at the Trojans. If USC has an area of concern under this microscope, getting the CBs some repetitions this spring will be crucial since Poole and Allmond move on. The Trojans are a team of the future. One need look no further than the fact two sophomores dot a short list of Heisman candidates in 2003. The red-hot pass-catch combo of Matt Leinart and Mike Williams is sure to set the college football world on fire for another season. The three-headed monster at TB is set once again, as each player appears to contribute something different with each snap. The Trojans must compensate for the loss of a strong offensive line, but do bring back 14 starters and enough young talent to make another serious run. Leading the nation in intangibles like TO-margin and net punting reflect the strong, balanced team approach Pete Carroll has supplied. No other program in the Pac Ten will return as loaded, so again the west coast looks to be theirs to lose. Don't be surprised to find USC sitting at #1 in quite a few off-season polls.
