Running Back, Defensive Back

Remember Dwayne Wright? He was to be the next star RB until an injury allowed Sumlin the chance to rush for over 1000 yards. James Sanders leads a group of savvy veterans in the secondary.

Defensive Line

Three monsters on the front line will move on. Rebuilding totally is not necessarily true with All-WAC tackle Garrett McIntyre back in the fold.

RB Bryson Sumlin

DB Jason Sanders

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

A few top-shelf analysts who shall remain nameless (ahem...Mark May, Lee Corso) were the first to jump on the Fresno State bandwagon late September after the Bulldogs had just knocked off Washington and Kansas State on the road, and they claimed this team from the Valley was their pick to run the table. They were only a year off and three loses short. Assuming the possibility that all-American safety James Sanders returns for his senior year, Fresno State has a better shot at accomplishing said predictions in 2005. QB Paul Pinegar is a four-year starter, the RBs Sumlin and Wright are former 1000-yard rushers (with Mathis not far behind), experience at WR is available, and the Bulldog defense will sport a tenacious back seven. The big question will be on the DL. But all-WAC performer DT Garrett McIntyre gives coaches something with which to start. Fresno State is a legit top 25 team. There must have been some magic in that old crusty hat Pat Hill found.
