Drew
Tate at times in 2004 was a one-man
victory with the RBs hurting. His
OL will remain fairly in tact. With
ample time to throw, look out for
Tate to become one of the Big Ten's
top surprises.

Iowa
won games with defense. The LBs are
top notch with Greenway and Hodge
leading the charge. Their production
however, will be more difficult as
the entire front line needs replaced.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
No
one can demand more respect as a coach then Kirk
Ferentz. Rarely do the Hawkeyes bring back many
returning starters. They usually have question
marks at every key position, which speaks volumes
for Ferentz' motivational and/or coaching skills.
The QB turnover has been constant, but no longer
in '05. Drew Tate is set to continue as one of
the Big Ten's biggest surprises for next year.
He'll have one of the top offensive lines and
a steady group of receivers. Most of this past
fall, Iowa would show up on Saturday's with a
sixth string RB due to a massive array of injuries.
If they can add a solid running dimension to the
offense, a shot at another Big Ten co-championship
is quite possible. The glaring problem is up front
on the DL, as not one single player returns with
significant playing time or statistics. The LBs
are another story as they boast two first-team
all-Big Ten returnees in Hodge and Greenway. This
next campaign looks no different than what Kirk
Ferentz has been handed in the past. Obviously,
never underestimate the Hawkeyes under this coaching
staff, which, in '04, we have all learned first
hand.
