The
production of freshman Royal and Hyman
was amazing in 2004. Coach Beamer
can smile knowing he has a few more
seasons with this group of receivers.

QB
Bryan Randall was the huge factor
in making this past fall an offensive
success. The big question is whether
Marcus Vick will return to take his
place. If Thorpe Candidate Jimmy Williams
turns pro, the secondary will be left
with zero in terms of players with
logged playing time.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
Did
the Hokies overachieve or were they underrated?
Remember, this team was not given any consideration
as a top 25 team in the preseason. Yet, they are
doing more than just competing for a first-time
ACC title - they are rated in the top five of
their conference in most every facet of the game
(except passing offense and punting). The typical
"Beamer Ball" that fans have become
accustomed to has found its way back
defense,
special teams and QB play. So, no doubt, the huge
question in Blacksburg this off-season will be
who succeeds Bryan Randall at QB. Randall played
the biggest role in their '04 surge with his running
and decision skills. Everyone around the country
wants to know if Marcus Vick - who doesn't quite
have the same talent levels as his namesake -
can return and earn back the reigns. All signs
point to yes, for now. The running game isn't
missing much of a beat now that Mike Imoh is carving
up defenses with Cedric Humes. The production
at receiver has been the biggest surprise with
so much youth. If Tech can find a way to build
the secondary, and the QB play is half of what
Randall provided, the Hokies won't have to stare
up at other teams ranked higher for long.
