2006 OFFENSE

BEST PLAYER: WR Jordy Nelson

TOP NEWCOMER: WR Val Taylor

STRENGTH: Numbers at RB representing tons of options, any of the top three could end up starting; One of the Big 12's top receiving threats, Jordy Nelson fits well in this West Coast offense, combined with Jermaine Moreira and starting tight end Rashaad Norwood...WR is the deepest position on the team

CONCERN: No one on the QB roster threw a pass in 2005 and the battle between Meier and Freeman will continue up until the opener. The most experienced QB (Allan Evridge) has decided to transfer in the process; Although four starters return on the OL, none of them seem capable of maintaining their starting role; Quality RBs only managed 3.5 yards per carry in this system last year.

2006 DEFENSE

BEST PLAYER: LB Brandon Archer

TOP NEWCOMER: LB Reggie Walker

STRENGTH: Strong against the run with some of the stuffers playing at DT; The LBs are the strength of the defense led by Brandon Archer, who has led the team in tackles the last two seasons; The secondary held opposing passers to a 56% completion rate last fall and the returning FS Marcus Watts was chosen as the defensive MVP

CONCERN: Pass rush needs to improve

2006 SPECIAL TEAMS

KICKER
Jeff Snodgrass has plenty of power as evident in his 57-yard field goal versus North Texas. He was also 5-of-8 from 40 yards plus.

PUNTER
Tim Reyer has struggled since his solid freshman season. He put 18 of his 65 kicks inside the 20 and had only five touchbacks, but his distance (40.3 yard average) was well off his freshman average of 42.4.
