* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players
that received the most playing experience (consistent
starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance
of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts,
transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups
and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our
full 2007 Preseason Preview due out this coming
spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS |
Miami
is in the same boat as their upstate rival
Florida State. They recruit extremely well;
coaching changes are on the way due to offensive
ineptitude; they have failed to recruit
well on the OL; and they both have failed
miserably in terms of expectations built
from year’s prior. Hey, the Cane defense
is as solid as any, ranking fifth nationally
in total effort. This will be a typical
Miami secondary in terms of making life
miserable for opposing receivers. The big
problem at Miami has been the lack of consistency
at QB. Kyle Wright has not shown anything
resembling the promise he bought with him
as a highly touted recruit from California.
His counterpart, Kirby Freeman, doesn't
seem to have many answers either. Much of
this can be attributed to an OL that has
lost its edge. The days of protecting QBs
in Coral Gables have disappeared. The problem
grew to the point where longtime OL coach
Art Kehoe got dismissed after the 2005 season.
Now, the administration can no longer put
the blame on head coach Larry Coker as he
gets sent packing after the bowl game concludes.
Miami is in a crucial stage right now in
terms of its future. The new coach will
at least find the cupboard full of athletes.
And just like FSU, after a 6-6 record this
past season while looking beatable by just
about everyone (they barely beat Houston
at home 14-13 and just got by winless Duke
20-15), the Hurricanes will have to play
their way back into a Top 25 ranking.
