DEPTH CHARTS were only designed
as a simplistic gauge for listing
players that departed and players
that received the most playing
experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes
the importance of missing personnel
data not listed such as redshirts,
transfers, injuries, incoming
recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with
our full 2011 Preseason Preview
due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS |
12/18/10
The good news for coach
Rich Rodriguez is that
his best season to date
in Ann Arbor is upon him.
With 18 starters returning,
the Wolverines are certainly
capable of bettering the
seven win regular season
they just completed. The
obvious source of such
a prediction rests with
the first quarterback
in NCAA history to rush
and pass for more than
1,500 yards each in a
season. Denard Robinson
has what is arguably the
quickest first step in
football and he will put
his talents on the field
once again in this his
third season wearing the
Maize and Blue. Every
position on offense is
due back minus offensive
guard Stephen Schilling.
This was a veteran offensive
line in 2010. This will
be an even more veteran
offensive line in 2011.
Roy Roundtree will continue
to be the prime target
in the passing game after
posting 63 receptions
this season. Everyone
knows however, the problems
with this team lie on
the defensive side. This
was the worst team in
the Big 10 defending the
pass; this was the second
to worst team stopping
the run. Although eight
starters are back, this
is still a young group
and the growing pains
are likely to continue.
Injuries forced a ton
of freshman to see the
field. No one is quite
sure if this 3-3-5 alignment
will ever stack up in
the Big Ten smash mouth
style of play so it remains
to be seen if defensive
coordinator Greg Robinson
will choose to continue
this schematic nightmare.
Face it, if this defense
can get just a 50% improvement
they are bound to outscore
most opponents. With all
the skill positions on
offense coming back, leaving
Michigan out of a Top
25 spot to begin the season
would have been a difficult
decision. They just have
to figure out a way to
play better defense against
the better teams. The
incoming recruiting class
will play a major role
in the rehabilitation.
A few JUCO transfers would
not hurt. That really
should be the type of
desperate approach this
coaching staff needs to
take on the defensive
side. It’s that
bad. The offense is that
good.
