QUICK TAKES

12/21/11

  • Baylor will be ranked in the Top 10 of the preseason polls for one reason only...RGIII rules. Should he decide to leave for the NFL the Bears could fall completely out of the Top 25.
  • Because of his arm, RGIII is capable of redefining the college quarterback position.
  • The second reason Baylor will be ranked in the Top 10 of the preseason polls is the hope for a better defense. The secondary has quality returning starters across the board and the defensive ends are all back to bring the pressure.
  • Four of the five defensive backs returning did manage to garner All-Big 12 Honorable Mention status.
  • MAJOR FACTOID THAT MUST CHANGE: Six of the top eight tacklers from 2011 were defensive backs. There is a major concern trying to find someone in this front seven to plug the middle. Coaches are already combing the JUCO recruiting ranks.
  • Losing top receiver Kendall Wright is not going to help Griffin's chance as the second ever Heisman repeat winner. Everyone else is back though. Look for Tevin Reese, Terrance Williams or Lanear Sampson to take over the slack by committee. This is not a unit of concern.
  • The most heated position battle this off-season will be finding a replacement for departed running back Terrance Ganaway, who set a Baylor single-season rushing record with his total of 1,317 yards.
