QB Landry Jones
Quarterback / Offensive Line

Landry Jones is the school's all-time career passing leader, which surpasses a pair of Heisman winners. With one more season, he will rewrite most all of the OU passing records. The offense threw the ball 558 times, the OL gave up only nine sacks and four starters are back on this unit.

Quarterback / Running Game / DB

Landry Jones, despite all his records, has faltered down the stretch of his career turning the ball over and hurting his team's chances. Can he rebound? With all the decorated ball carriers, the OU run game ranked near the bottom of the Big 12. The secondary is in the same boat, under performing with star potential.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2012 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK TAKES
  • OU has a chance to be a better football team in 2012 than it was heading into 2011 as the No. 1 ranked team assuming this team can learn from its' mistakes, stay healthy and allow the pressure of being top dog evaporate. The talent, depth and experience are just as impressive.
  • How bad did it get for school record setting passer Landry Jones down the stretch? He accounted for seven turnovers in the last two games and hasn't even been on the field for seven of OU's last eight touchdowns, which were scored by Blake Bell, the quarterback OU brings into the game in short yardage situations. Once a Heisman candidate, his stature has taken a big hit.
  • This offense is throwing the ball too much. Only two passers in all of FBS football had more passing attempts than Jones (Seth Doege at Texas Tech and Nick Foles at Arizona).
  • Recruiting is not always cracked up to what it's supposed to be...former walk-on Dominique Whaley is currently the team's leading rusher despite only playing in seven games before an injury knocked him out. The two he beat out (Roy Finch and Brennan Clay) were High School All-Americans.
  • Receiver Kenny Stills has the potential to be every bit as good as the departed Ryan Broyles. Jaz Reynolds is no slouch either. Plenty of route runners are available for this passing offense.
  • Once thought to be strength, the secondary has been exposed as suspect, having given up many big plays throughout the season, especially in two losses to Texas Tech and Baylor. Three fulltime starters will return to the mix in hopes of seeing better days.
  • What happens to the Sooner coaching staff will be a drama leading up to the bowl game and beyond. Many wonder if defensive coordinator Brent Venables and secondary coach Willie Martinez will be back next season.
