                                                        setbacks, especially considering 
                                                        the little help their 
                                                        offense was offering. 
                                                        When at full health the 
                                                        Gators have 10 starters 
                                                        coming back along with 
                                                        a boatload of experienced 
                                                        high school top flight 
                                                        prep talent waiting in 
                                                        the wings. This group 
                                                        has all the makings to 
                                                        be the best defense in 
                                                        the SEC. Even with the 
                                                        early departure of cornerback 
                                                        Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus 
                                                        Roberson, the defensive 
                                                        backfield is loaded. Recruiting 
                                                        has been good for Muschamp 
                                                        on the defensive side.

                                                        offense is another completely 
                                                        different story. The numbers 
                                                        are so poor it's almost 
                                                        too embarrassing to list 
                                                        them. The Gators could 
                                                        neither run nor pass and 
                                                        in the process offensive 
                                                        coordinator Brent Pease 
                                                        was canned after the final 
                                                        game. Yes, it's fair to 
                                                        say that injuries absolutely 
                                                        killed Florida. No team 
                                                        in the country suffered 
                                                        a weekly set back like 
                                                        this team just went through 
                                                        and the offense paid the 
                                                        price. At the same time 
                                                        the top three running 
                                                        backs could start for 
                                                        more than half of the 
                                                        teams across the country. 
                                                        No reason exists as to 
                                                        why they couldn't do more 
                                                        to help this team get 
                                                        enough wins to go bowling. 
                                                        Injuries and scheme were 
                                                        at fault. Hopefully for 
                                                        Gator fans both can be 
                                                        resolved this off-season.
