Only one season removed from a National Championship Game appearance, the Tigers now find themselves looking for a new quarterback to replace Nick Marshall, a new set of running back and a new center to replace All-American Reese Dismukes. Receiver Sammie Coates already decided to bolt for the NFL and now Auburn fans wait to hear if the same fate is in store for D'haquille Williams. That's a good chunk of offense gone. If any coach was capable of plugging new faces into the system Gus Malzahn is that guy. It's a unique hurry-up system built around H-Backs blocking and quarterbacks making good reads. The formula won't change. The faces will. The defense has eight starters coming back where there is plenty of room for improvement. This group just cannot afford the same dismal lapses where scoring 44 points wasn't enough to get a win. For these reasons it's tough to project Auburn into a better preseason ranking. The spring will have to reveal more.
