Western Oregon University was previously named Oregon College of Education (from 1939 to 1981) and Western Oregon State College (from 1981 to 1997).
WOU apparently used several different helmet designs during the second half of the 1990s. During 1999, red helmets were used with the team name "Wolves" in white on the side, possibly with a picture of a wolf's head, also (the lettering may have been similar or identical to the 2009-2010 helmet logo). The 1998 design was apparently very similar to the "2000? - 2008" design shown above.
