Comments

This conference has two new members in 2019: Wheeling University (which is playing its first season of varsity football) and Frostburg State (previously a member of the NCAA Division III New Jersey Athletic Conference). These two replace departed members Shepherd (moved to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) and UVa-Wise (to the South Atlantic Conference).

West Virginia Wesleyan has a new helmet design in 2019 (shown above).

CHARLESTON

Charleston's intercollegiate football team was resumed in 2003 after a 47-year absence; the school was known as Morris Harvey College when the earlier team played its last season in 1956.

Photographs from From Frostburg State's first game of the 2005 season vs. The Apprentice School show the team wearing plain black helmets, but it was reported to me that the team was soon thereafter using the "paw" decals once again.

*1 In 2014 the helmet numerals were apparently worn only on the left side of each helmet, with the right side being left "blank". Apparently during most games from 2015 to 2017 the red "paw print" logo was worn on the right side.

*2 The left side of this design is "blank" but a "paw print" logo is worn on the right side (as represented below).

The helmets used from 1987 through 1989 have been described as having navy blue shells and facemasks with a "blockstyle GSC on the side in white".

*1 I have received a report indicating that the "G" logo used on this design was worn on one side only of the helmet from 1992 through 2000, but I do have some photographs from the latter part of this period showing the "G" logo on the left sides of some helmets and on the right sides of others, suggesting that the logo was probably present on both sides.

NOTRE DAME COLLEGE

2010 2011 2012 -
*see note 1 below
2016 -

2010 was the first year of play for this team.

*1 While this design was in use the large falcon head logo was apparently always worn on the left side only of each helmet, while blue uniform numerals were worn on the right side (as depicted below).

During the last few games of the 2004 season, the decal worn on the right sides of the West Virginia Wesleyan helmets was modified by the addition of the number 32 in orange; below is the clearest photograph I have received showing this alteration. This was done in memory of team member Scott Stein, who died on October 10, 2004 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

*1 This design has the "W" logo on its left side only; the right side has white uniform numerals (as depicted below).
