Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M are using helmet designs in 2015 (shown above).

Mississippi Valley State is also using a new design in 2015. The helmets remain green but have a new logo - the word "Valley" in a script style, apparently white with red outline (photograph below). I will need a copy of the artwork for this new helmet decal in order to add this one to the website.

2015 -

Alcorn State apparently used a "spear" decal (similar to what Florida State uses) at one time, and many years ago the team used a "feather" logo (like the one on the old Washington Redskins helmet, which ran over the top of the helmet shell).

*1 Alcorn State began using a helmet decal after an unknown number of games in 2003, but by at least the October 25th game at Southern University.

*2 The 2014 helmet design used the "A" logo only on the left side; uniform numerals were worn on the right side (as depicted below).

c.mid-late 1990s 2005 - 2006 2007 (early season)
2007 (late season) ? - 2004; 2008 - 2011 2012 -

After beginning the 2007 season with plain gold helmets, UAPB added a new helmet logo by at least game #5 at New Mexico State. The new logo was the team name "Golden Lions" in white letters with black outlines, as you may see in the photo below. I would appreciate a copy of the helmet logo for this one.

c.1960s? - early 1970s? ? - mid 1990s October 11, 2014

In 2014 Grambling used three of the above helmet designs in the following sequence: A-A-A; B-A-B; C-B-B; B-B-B.

Grambling has apparently always used black helmets shells during the period covered by this web site (1960 to present). The oval "G" logo was apparently first used in approximately 1974, and is the only helmet logo ever used by the team (though the shape of the G has changed slightly through the years). The team probably used plain black helmets without stripes during at least some years in the 1960s, and some photographs suggest that some helmets had a single white or yellow stripe at the same time when others had a single red stripe or no stripes.

*1 Worn during the 2014 home game vs Alcorn State.

In 2014 JSU used three of the above helmet designs in the following sequence: A-A-A; A-A-A; A-B-C; C-C-C.

This team used several different helmet logos during the early 2000s; I would love to add some of these historical helmets to the web site, but I will need copies of these decals in order to do so. Below are photos of some of these helmets:

During the 2002 season, JSU used the helmet design shown in the photograph here; I would appreciate a copy of the logo used on this helmet, which would enable me to add this one to the site.

Jackson State was using plain white helmets during their first few games of the 2003 season, with the exception of game #3 against Tennessee State on September 13. During this game, at least some of the JSU players were wearing an unusually small decal that I cannot identify from the one photograph I have received showing it (shown here), but which is probably a "tiger head" of some sort. I would appreciate some larger and clearer photographs than this one.

In 2004 Jackson State was using a new helmet logo, a blue and white tiger head which you can see in the photo below. I would greatly appreciate a copy of the artwork for this helmet decal so that I may add this one to the web site (several people have sent me a logo that does not match this one - please examine the photo closely before sending me anything!). Photographs from the 2005 season show that this design was still being used by the team.

In 2001, MVSU used white helmets with an oval-shaped logo that I believe was used only during that season; shown below is the best photograph I have received of that helmet design. I would appreciate a copy of the logo used on this helmet.

*1 The 2014 MVSU helmet design used numerals on the left side, but the same "V/STATE" logo which was used in previous years was worn on the right side (as shown below).

1991 - 1994 1998 - 2001 2002
1995 - 1996; 2003 2004 2007 - 2009

2012 - 2014 2014 -

*1 First used October 25, 2014 (at Jackson State). This design was used during at least five of Southern's last six games in 2014 (no photographs could be found for November 1 (vs Alabama State)).

2008 - 2010 2010 - 2011 2012

2013 -

*1 This design was adopted beginning at an unknown point during the 2010 season; it was in use during at least the team's last three games, played on November 11 (vs Grambling State), November 20 (vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and December 11 (vs Alabama State in the SWAC championship game at Birmingham, AL).
