This team lasted for only five games in 1975. I have finally added the second design above (which was apparently used only once, during the team's last game vs Memphis) thanks to the photograph below, which confirms that the "W" within the helmet logo was apparently enclosed entirely within the football-shape:
Nearly every other instance of the logo dating from that period shows the "W" spilling outside the football-shape (examples below from media guides and tickets):

This team played its first eleven games in 1974 as the Houston Texans. One day before game twelve (September 19 at Birmingham) the franchise announced that it would relocate to Shreveport, but the September 19 game was apparently still played under the Houston Texans name (presumably still with the first helmet design shown above). "Plain" helmets were used the following week (September 25 vs Memphis), the first home game in Shreveport and the first game played with the Shreveport Steamer name. A new helmet logo was first used the following week (October 2 vs Detroit).
