During recent years George Fox has used the following sequences of helmet designs:

Football was restored at GFU in 2014 after a 44-year-long absence. The school was named George Fox College when the earlier period of intercollegiate football ended in 1969; at that time "Quakers" was the team nickname. I have not received any information regarding helmet designs for the 1960s George Fox teams but a cursory examination of the school's yearbooks from that era suggest that the helmets were mostly plain white with a single dark stripe (presumably blue, if the school colors have not changed since then).

The second helmet design shown above was apparently in use during at least the period 1965 through 1983 but I am unsure about the facemask color during the later years; both black and orange facemasks may have eventually been used. The college has published its old yearbooks on the internet and most of these years are covered, but few of them have color photographs.

From 1984 through 1988 L&C apparently used plain black helmets each year except 1986; while the facemasks were black in 1988 they may have been some other color (probably orange) during some of the earlier years.

The 1986 design had a black shell, orange facemask, and a logo that apparently consisted of the letters "LC" in white with orange outlines; beneath the logo was a "stripe" that ran towards the back of the helmet and may have been imprinted with the team name "Pioneers". Below are the "best" photographs of this design I have yet located and a logo (pictured on a 1985 uniform sleeve) that I think is similar to the one worn on the helmet. The logo and stripe may have been worn on the right side only of this design; it appears to be absent from the left side in the few available photographs.

*1 Uniform numbers are worn on the left side only of this design; the same "L&C" logo worn on both sides of the previous design is worn on the right side.

LINFIELD COLLEGE

1955 - 1962 1963 - 1992 1993 -

A newspaper article that was sent to me several years ago listed several facts about historical helmet designs used by Linfield:

The article made no mention of whether stripes were ever worn on Linfield's helmets, but it was sufficiently detailed that I would suspect mention would have been made if Linfield had ever used stripes, and I have not seen any photographs showing Linfield helmets with stripes. Apparently then this is the complete set of historical helmet images for Linfield for the period covered by this website (1960 to present), disregarding possible minor changes such as slight color changes, decal size changes, etc.

During recent years Pacific has used the following sequences of helmet designs:

Pacific University did not have a football team from 1992 through 2009. To the best of my knowledge the above are the complete set of historical helmet designs (back to 1960) for Pacific with the exception of the 1966 design, visible in the photograph below. The 1966 helmets were black with a "badger head" logo on the sides ("Badgers" was the team nickname through 1967). I would appreciate any clearer photographs than this one, especially color photographs. The badger is probably depicted in red and white colors, and may be a "generic" logo used by many teams.

*1 Each of these designs, and the 1966 design, have large white uniform numerals at the back of the helmet (not visible from the "vantage point" used at this website).

*2 Uniform numbers are worn on the left side only of this design; a logo is present on the right side (as represented below).

In 1969 Pacific Lutheran used black helmets with the "100" logo on the sides recognizing the centennial of the first college football game; below is the clearest photograph I have received of this design. I suspect that the football shape was blue and the numerals white with red outlines.

*1 It was reported to me that from 1976 through 1981 PLU used gray, white, and black facemasks simultaneously with this design, with none of those colors being clearly dominant. Beginning in 1982 white facemasks were used by the entire team uniformly.

*2 A switch to this design was made during the 1994 season (exact game unknown).

*3 The large logo is present on the left side only of this design; uniform numerals are worn on the right side (as represented below).

There are at least two other "known" helmet designs used by UPS during the period covered by this website: in 1969, the team used during at least some games a version of the college football centennial "100" logo; and from 1985 through at least 1987 a logo depicting a cartoon logger holding an axe and standing upon a log was used. Below are photographs of these two helmets:

The "100" logo was probably blue (most teams used a blue version of this logo) but certainly could have been green or some other color, also; obviously I cannot add an accurate representation of this design until the colors are clarified with photographic evidence. Similarly I would need a color photograph of the 1985-1987 helmet and a copy of the artwork for the helmet decal before I could add that one to the website.

*1 During at least some games in 1966 UPS simultaneously used both maroon and white football helmets (no uniform appearance for the team). In some photographs from the 1966 and 1967 season an intricate "UPS" logo is visible on at least some of the maroon helmets (photo below) but it does not appear to have been in widespread use, based on the very limited number of available photographs.
