United Football League (2009 - 2012)
The United Football League formed in 2009 and struggled through four seasons, the last two of which were cut short by financial shortfalls. The league elected to play during the autumn months, thus competing with the NFL and college football for attention from fans, though scheduling many of its games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Only 52 total games were played in the league's history because of the small number of teams (never more than five).
A total of five franchises played in the league, three of which relocated and changed names once.
