Quarterback

No one is quite sure if Joe Tereshinski is ready to take over for the departed Shockley, as evident in the ‘05 Florida game. A couple of talented players with little to no experience take over, though one of them is former prep superstar Joe Cox.

TE Leonard Pope

DE Quentin Moses

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2006 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

When they went from the winningest starting QB in SEC history (David Greene) to D.J. Shockley, many scoffed. Now the Dawgs lose Shockley. But, again, UGA has another qualified hurler in Joe Tereshinski. Tereshinski, like Shockley, finally gets the rock his senior campaign as starter yet has had few reps. Backups (Barnes and Cox) eagerly sat in the warm-up box as Tereshinski struggled in his backup role, just like Shockley did when playing behind Greene. Not many can argue with recent results, but lightning doesn’t often strike the same way twice. Four consecutive years of top 10 recruiting efforts mean Marc Richt will likely formulate a line with only two seniors returning from the two-deep. Expect more of the same from the receivers and TEs – deep routes that open up the middle and underneath (most of ’05 had four WRs with a 20+ per catch average). DB losses look much more impacting than those on the DL. Moreover, quite a few underclassmen will be tapped to secure the secondary, so the coin on them stays flipping in the air. The front seven looks to be one of the nation’s best since the entire LB corps returns, and it will put enough pressure on opposing passers such that the young DBs can heed lessons from Battle and Oliver. Security on special teams means much in those close SEC Dawg fights. Early tilts with South Carolina and Colorado may seem benign now, but the Gators, Tigers and Yellow Jackets to close is never anything nice. And once Spurrier and Meyer truly settle in…nothing is set in Stone (Mountain) for these Dawgs.
