Ignore
any
of the
numbers
the
Cornhuskers
have
put
up in
September.
The
non-conference
cupcake
schedule
has
been
one
of the
worst
in the
country.
The
most
impressive
notes
have
come
from
the
Nebraska
secondary
as they
have
faced
two
highly
regarded
quarterbacks.
Idaho's
Nathan
Enderle
was
picked
off
five
times
and
Jake
Locker
of Washington
finished
4-of-20
with
two
interceptions.
The
same
has
not
been
true
for
the
run
stopping
efforts.
Both
Western
Kentucky
and
South
Dakota
State
topped
the
century
mark
on the
ground
against
this
Husker
defense.
This
all
spells
a heavy
dose
of KSU
running
back
Daniel
Thomas,
one
of the
nation's
premier
rushers.
Opposing
defenses
have
chosen
to crowd
the
box
like
UCF
did
while
holding
Thomas
to just
76 yards.
But
Daniels
still
has
enjoyed
the
best
four-game
stretch
by any
rusher
in KSU
history
with
628
yards.
The
Wildcats
must
develop
some
kind
of consistent
passing
threat.
Quarterback
Carson
Coffman
has
not
yet
tapped
into
a go-to
target
among
a group
of receivers
that
was
expected
to grow
into
an offensive
strength.
When
Nebraska
has
the
ball,
containing
the
ground
game
is priority
one
for
the
Cats.
Freshman
quarterback
Taylor
Martinez
has
become
a lethal
dual
threat
and
when
running
backs
Roy
Helu
and
Rex
Burkhead
get
rolling
this
is a
tough
offense
to stop.
The
Wildcats
defensive
front
is very
thin
and
they
have
shuffled
numerous
players
into
the
linebacker
unit.
This
makes
for
a nasty
match
up that
favors
the
Huskers.
This
will
be the
last
time
these
two
will
meet
with
Nebraska
jumping
into
the
Big
Ten
next
fall.
The
series
has
gone
uninterrupted
since
1922
and
the
Wildcats
have
won
just
15 times.
The
Manhattan
crowd
will
be ready
on Thursday
evening.
Not
so sure
if the
KSU
defense
will
be.

offensive

Don
Treadwell
has
done
a masterful
job
filling
in for
head
coach
Mark
Dantonio,
who
is recovering
from
heart
surgery.
The
Spartans
have
found
some
physical
play
with
their
offensive
line
recently,
which
means
running
backs
Edwin
Baker
and
Le'Veon
Bell
have
played
a major
role
in offensive
success.
Quarterback
Kirk
Cousins
can
be inconsistent
at times
but
also
completed
20 of
29 passes
in the
win
over
Wisconsin
last
week.
Defensively
Greg
Jones
continues
to prove
he is
the
front-runner
for
the
Butkus
Award
that
goes
to the
nation's
best
linebacker.
He was
a one-man
wreaking
ball
against
Wisconsin
as has
been
the
case
through
out
the
early
season.
On the
other
side
Wolverine
quarterback
Denard
Robinson
continues
to rack
up ungodly
statistics.
Last
week
at Indiana
the
sophomore
passed
for
277
yards
and
ran
for
217
more.
His
speed
and
elusiveness
have
frozen
linebackers
and
safeties.
This
week
makes
for
a superb
match
up.
Greg
Jones
and
the
MSU
defense
get
the
biggest
test
of the
season.
Receiver
Junior
Hemingway
is becoming
a dangerous
outside
threat
for
Michigan.
Robinson
needs
dangerous
outside
threats
to keep
defenses
honest,
and
Hemingway
fits
that
role.
Where
the
Wolverines
have
problems
is in
the
secondary.
They
rank
120th
in the
nation
defending
the
pass...ah,
yes
that
is dead
last.
The
pressure
from
the
defensive
line
has
not
been
productive
either,
making
this
phase
of the
game
a huge
problem.
MSU
hurler
Kirk
Cousins
has
to come
up big
for
the
Spartans
to win.
That
can
be done.
The
Spartans
can't
stop
Robinson;
they
can
only
hope
to contain
him.
The
Spartan
run
defense
might
just
be good
enough
in this
high
scoring
affair.

of the

best
offenses
in the
Southeastern
Conference.
But
it's
not
without
its
faults.
They
rank
dead
last
in the
rushing
department.
For
all
of the
passing
star
power
with
quarterback
Ryan
Mallett,
an NFL
bound
tight
end
and
a large
cast
of talented
receivers,
this
offense
has
to become
more
than
it's
current
one-dimensional
approach.
The
Aggie
defense
had
been
performing
way
above
their
expectations
until
they
ran
into
big
time
difficulties
trying
to slow
down
the
Oklahoma
State
offense
in the
second
half
of last
week’s
Thursday
night
game.
They
like
to blitz
early
and
often
but
it has
not
paid
off
in the
pressuring
of quarterbacks.
Ryan
Mallett
will
eat
them
alive
if this
trend
continues.
Texas
A&M
was
thought
to possess
a full
cupboard
of talent
at quarterback
where
senior
Jerrod
Johnson
was
getting
some
preseason
Heisman
mention.
After
committing
five
turnovers
last
week,
it is
easy
to see
this
is not
the
case.
Head
coach
Mike
Sherman
inherited
an empty
offensive
line
and
he is
paying
the
price.
But
that
is no
excuse
for
the
poor
play
of his
senior
signal
caller.
The
Razorbacks
lead
the
SEC
in sacks
and
have
shown
a huge
jump
in improvement
on this
side
of the
ball
when
compared
to 2009.
Although,
they
continue
to be
porous
at times
stopping
the
run.
Look
for
gifted
A&M
running
backs
Christine
Michael
and
Cyrus
Gray
to be
forced
into
a major
role
this
week
as they
try
to calm
down
the
turnover
prone
Johnson,
which
keeps
the
score
lower
than
normal
and
much
closer.

The
notion
that
Alabama
has
no weaknesses
is starting
to come
to fruition.
And
much
of this
is based
on defensive
performance.
With
only
two
returning
starters
on this
side
of the
ball
from
last
year
everyone
knew
they
had
talent
and
that
it was
a matter
of putting
all
the
pieces
together.
It's
happened.
Bama
is getting
healthy
and
that
means
guys
like
defensive
end
Marcell
Dareus
and
linebacker
Courtney
Upshaw
are
getting
after
opponents.
Freshmen
such
as linebacker
C.J.
Mosley
are
getting
into
the
act.
But
the
backbone
of this
defense
is All-American
safety
Mark
Barron
who
led
a unit
that
absolutely
put
the
clamps
down
on Florida
last
week.
The
Crimson
Tide's
secondary
continues
to get
better
and
better,
and
Barron
is a
major
reason
why.
The
Gamecocks
have
to get
back
to utilizing
rookie
sensation
Marcus
Lattimore
between
the
tackles.
He was
slowed
down
in the
last
game
with
Auburn
and
that
made
a big
difference.
That
puts
too
much
pressure
on quarterback
Stephen
Garcia
who
is now
looking
over
his
shoulder
at backup
Connor
Shaw.
Turnover
issues
have
now
cost
him
security
as a
fulltime
starter
with
Coach
Spurrier.
The
big,
physical
receivers
Alshon
Jefferey
and
Tori
Gurley
continue
to lead
the
way
but
will
find
no easy
pass
against
this
Bama
secondary.
What
sets
South
Carolina
back
as a
big
underdog
this
week
is a
usually
sound
rushing
defense
that
has
slipped
as of
late.
Auburn
gashed
this
group
for
334
yards.
Heisman
winner
Mark
Ingram
and
Trent
Richardson
have
to be
licking
their
chops
in anticipation
for
this
match
up.
Winning
the
turnover
battle
is the
only
hope
for
the
Gamecocks.
Alabama
is hitting
its
stride.
The
grindstone
of the
SEC
makes
no difference.

This
game
is not
a battle
of Top
25 teams.
The
significance
of this
in-state
match
up is
in the
future
of both
programs
and
their
Pac
Ten
place.
UCLA
has
totally
rebounded
since
starting
out
0-2
on the
early
season.
Head
coach
Rick
Neuheisel
has
installed
the
Pistol
Offense
and
it has
made
his
Bruin
team
an extremely
potent
rushing
foe
that
continues
to steamroll
opponents.
Running
back
Johnathan
Franklin
rushed
30 times
for
216
yards
last
week
while
starting
quarterback
Kevin
Prince
sat
out
with
a swollen
knee.
Richard
Brehaut
made
his
first
career
start
in his
place
but
Prince
should
be good
to go
against
Cal.
The
offensive
line
is coming
together
nicely
and
the
Bruins
are
now
averaging
262
yards
a game
on the
ground.
The
problem
is they
are
118th
nationally
in passing.
The
Golden
Bears
counter
with
a star
running
back
of their
own
in Shane
Vereen
who
has
gained
300
yards
in his
last
two
games.
QB Kevin
Riley
is following
the
same
pattern
as the
past
two
seasons:
He looks
good
at times,
but
seems
to make
a game-changing
mistake
at a
pivotal
moment.
The
UCLA
defensive
line
is also
starting
to come
around.
With
four
new
starters
led
by tackle
David
Carter,
this
group
has
grown
by leaps
and
bounds
the
past
three
weeks.
Cal
is coming
off
a bye
week.
Losing
this
one
at home
would
put
them
at 0-2
in the
conference
and
Neuheisel
has
never
beaten
Jeff
Tedford.
The
keynote
is that
Cal
did
horribly
on defense
trying
to slow
down
the
Nevada
Pistol
offense.
Prince
is no
Colin
Kaepernick
running
the
Pistol
but
at least
Cal
has
seen
this
offense.
Crazier
things
have
happened
in games
like
this
where
one
team
has
its
back
against
the
wall.
But
UCLA
is too
hot
right
now.

The
best
thing
for
LSU
might
be a
road
game.
The
Baton
Rouge
home
crowd
continues
to boo
their
team
despite
the
fact
their
Tigers
are
5-0
on the
year...wow,
tough
crowd.
The
boo
birds
seem
to be
directed
at either
head
coach
Les
Miles
or quarterback
Jordan
Jefferson,
who
for
the
life
of him
cannot
throw
the
football.
That
means
Jarrett
Lee
appears
to be
the
starter
now
behind
center.
In his
most
extensive
playing
time
last
week
he was
16-of-23
passing
for
185
yards.
What
LSU
does
best
is run
with
the
ball
and
play
defense,
a good
formula
for
this
league.
They
rushed
for
219
yards
against
Tennessee
led
by tailback
Stevan
Ridley.
While
Alabama
gets
all
the
glory
LSU
is the
No.
1 ranked
defense
in the
SEC
right
now.
Speedy
Florida
running
back
Jeff
Demps
has
not
made
a difference
the
past
few
weeks
because
of a
bruised
foot.
This
has
spelled
trouble
for
the
Gator
ground
game.
Don't
expect
their
fortunes
to change
drastically
against
this
LSU
bunch.
They
will
likely
start
to put
more
burdens
on the
shoulders
of quarterback
John
Brantley
and
some
of his
receivers
such
as Deonte
Thompson.
Reports
out
of Vegas
are
that
Brantley
is questionable
for
this
game
with
injured
ribs.
The
Gainesville
Sun
has
reported
this
is not
true.
The
LSU
passing
attack
will
be no
match
for
this
Florida
secondary,
which
is one
of the
nations
best.
With
LSU
leaning
so heavily
on the
legs
of their
ball
carriers
this
Gator
defense
should
be able
to overstuff
the
box.
LSU
finally
finds
an opponent
they
can't
beat
while
doing
the
things
that
have
squeaked
out
wins
versus
inferior
competition
thus
far.
The

won't
be in
a happy
mood
either
after

week.

As coach
Bobby
Bowden
once
phrased,
"Nothing
means
nothing
until
Miami".
Both
teams
enter
this
game
with
confidence
and
production.
The
Seminole
defense
has
done
a complete
turnaround
since
the
embarrassing
beating
they
took
versus
Oklahoma.
FSU
actually
leads
the
nation
in sacks
with
25,
which
are
12 more
sacks
than
they
generated
the
entire
2009
season.
The
Nole
defense
has
shut
down
their
last
three
opponents.
The
secondary
is miles
better
than
the
one
they
fielded
a year
ago
and
the
defensive
line,
which
at the
beginning
of the
season
was
a really
huge
concern,
is getting
better
each
week.
But
all
that
has
been
against
inferior
offenses.
Miami
has
been
living
and
dying
off
of turnovers.
Quarterback
Jacory
Harris
is,
was
and
will
continue
to be
an interception
king.
Much
like
a year
ago,
he has
10 touchdowns
to 8
interceptions
through
four
games.
On the
other
hand,
Miami
is also
creating
turnovers
after
getting
six
of them
last
week
in a
win
at Clemson.
Senior
receiver
Leonard
Hankerson
has
blossomed
and
running
back
Damien
Berry
helped
the
Canes
get
a season-high
171
yards
rushing
against
a stout
Clemson
defense.
Balance
will
be a
key
in this
game
and
both
FSU
and
Miami
have
it.
Quarterback
Christian
Ponder
can
distribute
the
ball
but
he now
has
both
Jermaine
Thomas
and
Chris
Thompson
as a
very
dangerous
threat
out
of the
backfield.
The
match
up between
the
FSU
veteran
blockers
and
the
deep
Miami
DL will
be one
to watch.
While
FSU
leads
the
nation
in sacks,
guess
who
is No.
2? That
would
be the
Canes.
Cornerback
Brandon
Harris
is playing
like
the
All-American
he is
and
that
has
made
this
secondary
resemble
the
Miami
ones
of old.
This
game
has
so many
intriguing
comparisons
with
a little
bit
of everything.
The
winner
takes
a huge
step
forward
into
becoming
the
force
of the
ACC.
You
can
bet
this
game
goes
down
to the
wire.
The
team
with
the
ball
last
will
have
a chance
to win.

NFL
prospect
again.
The
Huskies
gained
536
yards;
it's
most
under
second
year
coach
Steve
Sarkisian.
In a
very
un-USC-like
stat,
the
Trojans
rank
99th
nationally
in total
defense.
And
they
haven't
even
faced
Oregon
or Stanford
yet.
It's
hard
to get
a read
on where
Stanford's
strengths
and
weaknesses
lie
after
getting
beat
at Oregon
last
week.
The
offense
rolled
up 518
yards
against
a Duck
defense
that
was
ranked
among
the
nation's
best.
When
a team
scores
31 points
in the
first
half
on the
road,
its
offense
has
to be
considered
effective,
even
if it
gets
shut
out
in the
second
half.
What
hurt
the
Cardinal
was
a run
defense
that
had
been
stout
in the
first
four
games
but
got
torched
trying
to handle
Oregon's
running
back
LaMichael
James
speed
in space.
USC
is not
the
same
type
of spread
offense.
This
is still
an exceptional
smart
and
well-equipped
team
than
can
match
up with
the
Trojans
power
game.
Andrew
Luck
should
have
a field
day
against
this
secondary
proving
he is
a much
better
performer
than
his
USC
counterpart
Matt
Barkley.
On paper
this
one
spells
Stanford,
but
USC
is the
team
with
more
to prove
and
a chip
on the
shoulder…making
this
one
a little
closer.
